Bank Surgical First Assistant

As our Bank Theatre Practitioner / Surgical First Assistant, you will be:

• Working as an advanced practitioner within the operating department.
• Supporting Consultants as a Surgical First Assistant during surgical procedures.
• Assisting with patient positioning, prepping and surgical exposure.
• Supporting haemostasis, tissue retraction, suction and camera manipulation as appropriate.
• Preparing and maintaining theatre equipment, instruments and consumables.
• Supervising and supporting junior colleagues and students.
• Contributing to clinical governance, audit, KPI monitoring and service improvement initiatives.
• Supporting efficient theatre utilisation and patient flow.
• Maintaining accurate clinical records and documentation.
• Participating in education, mentorship and professional development activities.

As a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with a nationally recognised AfPP-approved Surgical First Assistant qualification, you will also have:

• Specialist theatre qualification such as ENB 183/176 or equivalent.
• Teaching qualification.
• Minimum 2 years' operating theatre experience.
• Experience managing or leading teams within a clinical environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary team working and clinical governance.
