As one of our Recovery Healthcare Assistants, you’ll play a very involved patient supportive role. You will be ensuring a patient’s fitness ready for surgery, through effective questioning and cross referencing of the Patient Pathway, raising any doubt to the Recovery Department manager for review.
You’ll be assisting members of the theatre team by making sure your patient is physically and mentally prepared and ready for the treatment to take place, box ticking particulars such as nil by mouth period adhered to and required pre operation medication taken within the set time periods, etc.
You will be expected to have gained up to date knowledge of your patient, by investigating the patent pathway, it will then be your responsibility of adding to and following that patents pathway, ensuring particulars such as; consent obtained before any treatment is carried out.
Recovery monitoring will be a part of this position. Post treatment or operation, you will be required to monitor your patient, checking vital signs and their particular awareness when patent is coming round. How is their speech? How comfortable are they feeling? Are they able to drink yet? If not how long until? Are they hungry? How much can they eat and are they able to digest anything easily?
You’ll be in regular communication with Theatre staff, Consultants, Nurses and other administration staff, and will look to keep the patient updated and well informed.
