About The Role

Break into prison healthcare!
Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be!

You will be the Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner for the mental health team and will provide the triage and assessment for initial referrals and interventions to clients. You'll play a key role in providing a duty role for urgent referrals and support senior staff in development plans. You will hold a caseload of patients and will contribute to the ACCT reviews and assessments when required.

About You

You will either be a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist or hold membership with BABCP/BACP/ UKCP. A real passion for developing your clinical skills in an ever-changing environment is essential.

If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

About Us

HMP Lewes is a local category B men’s prison for those on remand to local courts as well as those who have been sentenced and those awaiting release. With an operational capacity of 692, HMP Lewes is based in Lewes in East Sussex, within the South Downs National Park. It’s approximately 25 minutes from Brighton and Hove, 35 minutes from Eastbourne and Worthing by car.

We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare services in prisons and youth offender establishments.

We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history. That’s why we’re proud to deliver quality healthcare in some of the most challenging environments; care that is equal to what you receive in the community. We’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of prisoners by improving their health, securing their wellbeing, and helping to reduce reoffending behaviour.

We deliver round-the-clock healthcare to more than 40,000 patients at over 45 prisons of all categories. Prisons are a community like any other and we offer all of the health services any community needs in one place and with a single team. These range from reception health checks on arrival and regular GP services, to help with substance misuse, mental health, chronic or long-term conditions, podiatry, physiotherapy, and optometry.
