Our prison GPs are extremely valued and well respected members of the Prisoner Health community. Delivering first class healthcare to a group with such a wide variety of patients, GPs at Practice Plus Group get the opportunity to further develop their knowledge in areas they that wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, the General Practitioner will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other healthcare staff, patients and carers and have active involvement in clinical governance/effectiveness activities. This vacancy is for 8 sessions, where you will be catering for a patient list size of circa-1000. We include dedicate administration time to ensure workload is managed correctly.

If you are new to prisoner health, we create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role. You will gain insight and training in Mental Health and Substance Misuse as well as have opportunities for training and development, facilitated via our dedicated Learning and Development team.

In this environment, we appreciate flexibility around working hours hence we are willing to accommodate GP’s who wish to pursue a more portfolio style career and only wish to work part time. We offer a competitive annual salary plus payment of MDU/MPS subscription and CPD days - you will be paid £110000 FTE for 8 sessions which can be discussed in an informal discussion or at interview.

HMP Isle of Wight was opened in April 2009; it was formed by the clustering of three former establishments HMP Parkhurst, HMP Albany and HMP Camp Hill. HMP Isle of Wight's present role is a category B male training prison. The prison holds approximately 1100 prisoners on two sites with a central administration. The site houses a dedicated multidisciplinary team around the GP including, ACP, Mental Health Team, Nursing and Physiotherapy – there is also an on-site pharmacy and dispensary.
