About The Role

Are you looking for something different?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

As a Registered Nurse (RGN) you will be an integral part of the healthcare team and will be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient’s histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment, and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

In return for your hard work you will...

Receive an annual salary of up to £31,400 depending on experience. You'll also get several benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave, increasing with service up to 28 days per year + bank holidays, CPD, and re-validation support. Other benefits include cycle to work scheme plus training and clinical development opportunities.

About You

You will have a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever-changing.  You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.

You should possess a good working knowledge of conducting risk assessments and care planning as well as someone who is creative and forward-thinking to work through the issues that may arise in this challenging but exciting environment. Knowledge in therapeutic interventions such as CBT or Steps to Wellbeing is desirable but transferable clinical skills will be considered with appropriate training provided.

About Us

HMP Dartmoor is a category C men's prison, located in Princetown high on Dartmoor accessible by bus from Plymouth bus station. The services offered are that similar to a GP practice with additional mental health and substance misuse services alongside GP and Nurse Triage appointments, health promotion, and long-term life-limiting conditions.

We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare services in prisons and youth prisoner establishments.

We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history. That’s why we’re proud to deliver quality healthcare in some of the most challenging environments; care that is equal to what you receive in the community. We’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of prisoners by improving their health, securing their wellbeing, and helping to reduce reoffending behaviour.

We deliver round-the-clock healthcare to more than 40,000 patients at over 45 prisons of all categories. Prisons are a community like any other and we offer all of the health services any community needs in one place and with a single team. These range from reception health checks on arrival and regular GP services, to help with substance misuse, mental health, chronic or long-term conditions, podiatry, physiotherapy, and optometry.

Please note that this role is subject to Practice Plus Group Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to right to work in the UK, references, an enhanced DBS check, and prison vetting.

At Practice Plus Group we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities and we are committed to this in both the running of our prison healthcare service and how we recruit our staff. We actively encourage applications from everyone with the essential requirements of the job, regardless of any protected characteristics.
