About The Role

ADD TO LIFE. EVERY LIFE

Where making a difference changes lives

Secure environments are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work. If you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing  skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this could be the opportunity for you.

Prison Medicine is a very rewarding career, which offers a more varied day to day workload, with greater opportunities for flexible working and professional development, than community General Practice. You will have a full induction at HMP Brixton and ongoing support from the Regional Medical Lead for the London region.

You will provide primary care to patients within GP clinics - clinically assessing, diagnosing and treating patients, similar to that in the community but with the added benefit of being part of a fully integrated Healthcare department. There is a multidisciplinary team made up on mental health, substance misuse, primary care and pharmacy professionals; you will provide a highly specialist resource of knowledge and skills to the healthcare team in the prison. There will be an active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities, as we strive to give the best possible care to our patients.

About You

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. You will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as access to a variety of training opportunities.

Interested in professional development?

We have a wide range of opportunities for you to develop your skills and your career, which include both internal and external options for development and learning and access to our apprenticeship schemes.

How will we support you?
• Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course
• Competency framework
• Regional and national career development opportunities
• Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
• Support from the wider team

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £130,000 per annum - depending on experience.

It doesn’t stop there… we also offer:

  • Company pension scheme
  • 25 days annual leave increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus public bank holidays
  • An extensive range of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits
  • Discounts on shopping and leisure activities
  • Support to grow in your role and continue your professional development
  • Excellent long-term career prospects
  • 24/7 employee assistance helpline and financial assistance when you need it
