Make a difference from day one!
Prison Medicine is a very rewarding career, which offers a more varied day to day workload, with greater opportunities for flexible working and professional development, than community General Practice. No previous experience of working in prisons is required, as you will have a full induction and ongoing support from fellow GPs and the Regional Medical Lead.
What will you be doing?
You will provide primary care to patients within GP clinics - clinically assessing, diagnosing and treating patients, similar to that in the community but with the added benefit of being part of a fully integrated Healthcare department. There are mental health nurses, psychiatrists, physical health nurses, physiotherapists, dentists, podiatrists and sexual health services all available within the Prison Healthcare System.
You will also be an active member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, and provide a highly specialist resource of knowledge and skills to other members of the healthcare team in the prison. There will be an active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities, as we strive to give the best possible care to our patients.
Working as a GP in a secure environment gives you the flexibility to be able to provide specialised care to your patients, as well as dedicated admin time to ensure you manage your workload in a way that works for you.
