About The Role

ADD TO LIFE. EVERY LIFE

Where making a difference changes lives

Secure environments are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work. If you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing medical skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this could be the opportunity for you.

Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. We deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and therefore as a General Practitioner at Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Heathrow IRC is Europe’s largest detention facility, holding up 600 male residents in Harmondsworth and 400 in Colnbrook with a small short term female facility, the Sahara Unit. GP clinics are held daily and are supported by the teams specialising in mental health, substance misuse, psychology, psychiatry and psycho-social support.

About You

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. You will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as access to a variety of training opportunities with the opportunity to work towards your RCGP level 2 and other qualifications should you wish.

Interested in clinical development?

We have a wide range of opportunities for you to develop your skills and your career, which include both internal and external options for development and learning and access to our apprenticeship schemes.

How will we support you?
• Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course
• Competency framework
• Regional and national career development opportunities
• Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
• Support from the wider team

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £120,000  per annum FTE - depending on experience.

It doesn’t stop there… we also offer:

  • Company pension scheme
  • 25 days annual leave increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus public bank holidays
  • An extensive range of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits
  • Discounts on shopping and leisure activities
  • Support to grow in your role and continue your professional development
  • Excellent long-term career prospects
  • 24/7 employee assistance helpline and financial assistance when you need it
