About The Role

Have you thought about working within prison healthcare?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!

As a Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) you will be an integral part of the healthcare team across HMP Rye Hill and Onley and will be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation of patient care and standards. Your time will be split equally across these sites, which makes this a great opportunity to broaden your clinical experience!

You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient’s histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment, and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.

You will also be working as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team, alongside the substance misuse and mental health teams.

About You

You will have a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever-changing. If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

You should possess a good working knowledge of conducting risk assessments and care planning as well as someone who is creative and forward-thinking to work through the issues that may arise in this challenging but exciting environment.

How will we support you?

• Bespoke induction
• Competency framework
• Regional and national career development opportunities
• Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
• Support from the wider team

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £36,500 per annum - depending on experience. We offer a whole host of additional benefits such as: cycle to work scheme, free DBS check, free uniform, an extensive training and development structure for all employees along with an employee recognition scheme.

It doesn’t stop there… we also offer a company pension scheme which we as Practice Plus Group also pay into, 25 days annual leave increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus 8 public bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time), NHS blue light card, discounted Costco memberships, access to Boundless memberships for attractions and parks, shopping discounts, free eye tests for computer screen users, an 24/7 employee assistance helpline and financial assistance when you need it.

HMP Rye hill is based next to HMP Onley is located in the village of Barby, Northamptonshire.

Both HMP sites are situated just over 5 miles south of Rugby and 5 miles north of Daventry with good transport links from Coventry and Northampton. Both HMP’s Onley and Rye Hill are located next to each other, and are only a short (2 minute) walk away, making the ability to work across both of the sites an effective opportunity for this role.

Practice Plus Group were recently awarded the healthcare contract at HMP Onley and Rye Hill and will begin delivering services in October 2022. We are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

Practice Plus Group’s mission is Access to Excellence.  Our core values are;

  • we treat patients and each other as we would like to be treated,
  • we act with integrity
  • we embrace diversity
  • we strive to do things better together.
  • Patients can only access excellence if we commit to living our values in everything we do when we’re at work.

If you share these values and have transferable skills we want to meet you!
