About The Role

I treat more than just symptoms

Are you collaborative, caring, and compassionate?

Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre is a detention centre based on the grounds of Gatwick Airport, Crawley, West Sussex and we are looking for a Senior Registered Nurse to join our team.

As a Senior Registered Nurse (Adult), you’ll be an integral part of the senior team at Gatwick IRC, bringing your well-developed clinical skills, passion for care, and leadership skills to the role. You will be leading from the front, keeping your skills sharp by delivering some clinics directly, and developing knowledge within the team to continually improve the care for patients.

This is a leadership role and with your team leaders, you will model a culture of compassion, care, courage, commitment, communication, and competence. The role will include providing support and mentorship; drawing the best from our staff and improving the quality of care received by patients.

As the Senior Nurse, you will be innovative, bringing fresh ideas and solutions to the challenges of proving healthcare in a prison that is also changing its focus to a remand and resettlement prison; you will see men at the beginning and end of their time in prisons, both are times of transition in the community and require a coordinated approach to continuity of care with other services.

About You

You will be a Registered General Nurse looking to develop your current skills in a unique and ever changing environment.

You will have a passion for learning and development, as well as having the initiative to bring new ideas and opinions on how to improve the healthcare services. Prison Healthcare experience is not essential although we do ask that you have experience within primary care
.

Interested in clinical development?

We offer opportunities to develop in to a specialist role of your interest which in turn benefits the service. Examples include ANP, BBV, sexual health, plastering, ILS (intermediate life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.

How will we support you?

• Bespoke induction
• Competency framework
• Preceptorship (newly qualified practitioners)
• Regular clinical supervision
• Supported development into specialties such as diabetes or asthma
• Regional and national career development opportunities
• Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
• Support from the wider team

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £40,000 per annum - depending on experience; free DBS check, free uniform, free mandatory training, indemnity cover, CPD and re-validation support. As well as a number of benefits including a company pension scheme, 25 days annual leave, increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus 8 public bank holidays plus other benefits including cycle to work scheme and clinical development opportunities.

About Us

We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare services in prisons and youth offender establishments.

We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history. That’s why we’re proud to deliver quality healthcare in some of the most challenging environments; care that is equal to what you receive in the community. We’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of prisoners by improving their health, securing their wellbeing, and helping to reduce reoffending behaviour.

We deliver round-the-clock healthcare to more than 40,000 patients at over 45 prisons of all categories. Prisons are a community like any other and we offer all of the health services any community needs in one place and with a single team. These range from reception health checks on arrival and regular GP services, to help with substance misuse, mental health, chronic or long-term conditions, podiatry, physiotherapy, and optometry.
