About The Role

This role brings a great opportunity to embrace change and embed culture. The role will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse and mixed Occupational Therapy background. The role involves assessing, planning, and delivering care and therapeutic interventions to patients with complex and/or unstable health care needs. Reviewing care and therapy interventions will be a key aspect of the role.

You can expect to be involved in all aspects of the care planning approach for clients within your caseload. Multi-partner working is essential so the right level of communication and team working skills are essential as well as excellent record keeping skills to ensure that you maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.

Heathrow Immigration Removal Centre is a detentions centre located next to Heathrow Airport in Harmondsworth, London Borough of Hillingdon. It is the largest immigration removal centre in Europe, with a capacity of 965 residents – mainly adult males, however it does house some adult female detainees.

Practice Plus Group will be taking over the contract from the existing providers on 1st April 2022 and will be delivering a fully integrated Health & Wellbeing Service focussing around key patient needs within Heathrow IRC. If you want to make a real difference to someone’s present and future with an opportunity to use all of your clinical and interpersonal skills whilst developing new abilities then this is the place to be!

Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

We can offer training and development in our friendly and supportive teams as well as a range of other employee benefits.

About You

With a diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy and registered with the HCPC, you will need to be empathetic and willing to learn and develop your skills. Experienced in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you'll be able to manage your caseload and apply an application of OT theory in the treatment of patients in an inpatient setting. An understanding of common medical, surgical and neurological conditions is also required.

You’ll have a good understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record-keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work well within a team, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations or seeking advice/direction should you find yourself in a situation with no prior knowledge.

Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

About Us

We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare services in prisons and youth offender establishments.

That’s why we’re proud to deliver quality healthcare in some of the most challenging environments; care that is equal to what you receive in the community. We’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of prisoners by improving their health, securing their well-being, and helping to reduce re-offending behaviour.

At Practice Plus Group we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities and we are committed to this in both the running of our prison healthcare service and how we recruit our staff. We actively encourage applications from everyone with the essential requirements of the job, regardless of any protected characteristics.

Please note that offers of employment are subject to Practice Plus Group Terms & Conditions and receipt of satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check and CTC (Counter Terrorism Check) vetting.
