About The Role

Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

HMP Wealstun is a Category C men's prison, located near the village of Thorp Arch in West Yorkshire. Which is based 30 minute from Leeds, and 5 minutes from the A1 just off Boston Spa.

Working shift patterns cover a variety of hours between 7am – 7:30pm. The site currently has departments for Mental Health, Substance misuse, Primary care and admin.

Training and support is offered for all staff, there is also and onsite gym accessible and free to staff as well as free parking on site.


The post holder will

• Assist with general dispensary duties and stock management within the actual prison pharmacy environment
• Assist the pharmacy team in adhering to all Practice Plus Group medicines management and medicines optimisation policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Local Operating procedures (LOPs) in line with national policies
• Work as an active member of the pharmacy team to ensure delivery of a legal, safe, high quality specialist prison pharmacy service which reflects National and local policy and priorities, taking into account the high level of security that must be maintained at all times.
• Assist in the provision of a timely and efficient pharmacy service to the treatment areas on prison wings.
• Have awareness of the location of medicine related policies, procedures and clinical guidelines with the prison.
• May be required to take on a role of working across other Practice Plus Group pharmacy sites if and when required


About You

What do we need from you so you can do the job?

You will be required to assist with general dispensary/pharmacy area duties and stock management within the prison pharmacy area. Supporting the pharmacy/healthcare team to ensure the provision of a timely and efficient pharmacy/medicines management service to the the treatment areas on prison wings.

You will hold NVQ Level 2, BTEC or equivalent qualifications in Pharmacy. You will also have relevant post-qualification experience working within a pharmacy environment.

Receive an annual salary of up to £18,500- dependent on experience.
