About The Role

Make a difference from day one!

Are you collaborative, caring, and compassionate?
Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

As a Registered Nurse, you’ll be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team by bringing your top-notch clinical skills and passion for care.
With plenty of primary care experience, you could be involved in anything from undertaking a wide variety of screening, assessments, examinations, and tests as well as answering emergency bells and potentially being the first person to attend an emergency. The main focus of this role will be to provide quality screening and assessment with the early days in the custody patient cohort. We require a nurse who has excellent holistic assessment as well as being able to demonstrate accurate and detailed recording skills within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment. Your clinical assessment skills will be truly holistic, covering physical and mental health, as well as a good awareness of substance misuse issues.
If you have a passion for bringing new ideas to the table then we’re here to listen to how we can improve and continue to develop our healthcare service within the prison environment.

In return for your hard work you will...

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £36,500 - depending on experience. You'll also get a number of benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays plus CPD, and re-validation support.
Other benefits include cycle to work scheme plus training and clinical development opportunities.
Onsite benefits at HMP Isle of Wight include access to an onsite gym and free parking.

Interested in clinical development?

We could give you the opportunity to develop into a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. ANP, BBV, sexual health, plastering, ILS (intermediate life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.

About Us

HMP Isle of Wight is a category B prison that is based over 2 sites Albany and Parkhurst and has a population of 1100 prisoners.
Our two sites-based Primary Healthcare Centres provide a comprehensive primary care service, GP appointments, chronic disease nurse-led clinics, screening programmes, and health promotion work. An emergency response service to prison wings is also provided.
There is also an Inpatient Healthcare unit (IHU) on the Albany site which provides 24-hour care to those with mental health, physical health, substance misuse, and palliative care needs. The post-holder may be expected on occasions to rotate to the inpatient unit.

We are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. When you’re part of the Practice Plus Group team, you don’t just have a job. You have a career. We work with you to help you grow in your role and take your career in the direction you want to go. If you want to move up the ladder, we’ll support you. If you just want to stay in your role, that’s fine too. We’ll help you be the best you can be.

We want our team members to feel motivated and rewarded. So we offer a competitive package of pay and benefits including free DBS check, free uniform, free mandatory training, indemnity cover, CPD and re-validation support, 25 days annual leave rising up to 28 days depending on service plus 8 public bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time), plus other benefits including cycle to work scheme and clinical development opportunities.

We are passionate about what we do and our core values are:
