About The Role

Have you thought about working within prison healthcare?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!

We are currently seeking Bank Registered Nurses within HMP Channings Wood, a category C training and resettlement prison located near Newton Abbot. Working as a Bank Registered Nurse offers you flexibility and workplace variety. You would also be assisting the wider permanent team, covering for planned and unplanned absences.

About You

You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Adult) with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever-changing. Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in health promotion or A&E, alternatively, you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.

The role will be an experience like no other, requiring diverse and mixed nursing skills and background. One minute you could be delivering a nurse-led clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response.
You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Adult) with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever-changing.

You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage, suturing, wound care, and fracture clinics to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment, and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.

Interested in clinical development?

We offer opportunities to develop in to a specialist role of your interest which in turn benefits the service. Examples include ANP, BBV, sexual health, ILS (intermediate life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.

How will we support you?
• Bespoke induction
• Competency framework
• Regional and national career development opportunities
• Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
• Support from the wider team

You’ll receive an hourly pay rate of up to £19.67 per hour - depending on experience. We offer a whole host of additional benefits such as: free DBS check, free uniform, an extensive training and induction structure for all employees along with an employee recognition scheme (for anyone you refer into a permanent role).
