A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to work within our Substance Misuse Team at HMP Lewes. As a creative team player, you'll become part of a multidisciplinary service. This is an exciting time to support and motivate individuals to take control of their lives and make changes to overcome dependence on substances and move onto a life free of offending.
 
As a Senior Substance Misuse Nurse you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, whilst being a support and resource to less experienced members of staff. You must be able to carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users. You will work with individuals, on a 1-1 basis, providing advice and information. You will support group work delivery and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions. You will occasionally be required to support dispensing. You must have an understanding and commitment to recovery and a person centred approach.
 

What can we offer you?
You will receive a salary of up to £38,100 per annum - dependent upon experience.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Experience of working in a prison environment
• Experience in working with substance misusers
• Ability to gain the appropriate level of service user consent
• Sound clinical/substance misuse knowledge.
• Assessment skills, including an understanding of risk assessments.
• Awareness of health issues relating to substance misuse.
• Ability to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach, which considers the needs of the whole person.

 

Qualifications
• 1st Level Registered nurse with current registration within the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - RGN/RMN
• RCGP Certificate in Management of Drug Misuse
• Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
• Non-medical prescribing (desirable)

HMP Lewes is a local category B men’s prison for those on remand to local courts as well as those who have been sentenced and those awaiting release. With an operational capacity of 692, HMP Lewes is based in Lewes in East Sussex, within the South Downs National Park. More Information
The shifts include: Long days 7:00 -21:00 and early shifts from 7:00 -15:00.

From 1st April 2022, it will be a legal requirement for all healthcare workers who have direct face to face contact with patients to be vaccinated with an approved COVID19 vaccine. This includes front-line workers, as well as non-clinical workers not directly involved in patient care but who nevertheless may have incidental and/or intermittent direct, face to-face contact with patients. As part of our recruitment to this role, evidence of vaccination, or clinical exemption will be required.
