About The Role

I treat more than just symptoms

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment?

Are you looking for an opportunity to gain experience in a challenging and rewarding role?

HMP Leeds is s category B men’s prison based in Leeds, Yorkshire. The Leeds team adopts an inclusive, compassionate and punctilious attitude towards each other and their patients. Leeds is an unpredictable, fast paced environment where care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shifts will vary depending on the department you work for, we encourage you to contact us for more information.

Progression and development is encouraged and supported, this can be discussed in one of your regular supervisions with your line manager or clinical supervisor.

There is access to free parking in a secure car park and it is easily accessible from the motorway.

Our team is built of primary care, mental health, substance misuse and pharmacy who are supported by our clerical team and over seen by the head and deputy head of healthcare.

Practice Plus Group are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

About the Role:

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in health promotion or A&E, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.

The role will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse and mixed nursing skills and background. One minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response.

You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage, suturing, wound care and fracture clinics to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.

About You

What will we need from you?

You will be a qualified RGN with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

Salary and Benefits

The salary is £20.22 per hour

Practice Plus Group benefits include training & development opportunities, company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave increasing to 28 with length of service plus 8 public bank holidays, staff well-being, access to bank hours, CPD, re-validation, cycle to work scheme, on-site gym facilities and free onsite parking at some locations.
