About The Role

Looking for something a bit different in your Nursing career?

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment?

Are you looking for an opportunity to gain experience in a challenging and rewarding role?

Then look no further…

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in general practice, health promotion, or A&E, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their long-term conditions or minor ailments. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.

The role will be an experience like no other, requiring diverse and mixed nursing skills and backgrounds. One minute you could be delivering a nurse-led clinic and the next you might be attending an emergency response.

You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage, suturing, wound care, and vaccination clinics to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment, and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.

About You

You will be a qualified and experienced RGN with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever-changing. You’ll have a flexible approach to working within a team that encourages new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

About Us

HMP The Verne is a 580 place prison for people on longer sentences who have been convicted of sexual offences. Patients are more likely to have long-term healthcare needs and many have experienced childhood trauma.

This is a bank  role working as and when required.

Please note that this role is subject to Practice Plus Group Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to right to work in the UK, references, an enhanced DBS check, and prison vetting.

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work. If you are a qualified nurse, or soon to qualify, and want a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!

Practice Plus Group are Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

At Practice Plus Group we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities and we are committed to this in both the running of our prison healthcare service and how we recruit our staff. We actively encourage applications from everyone with the essential requirements of the job, regardless of any protected characteristics.
