About The Role

As a Primary Care Team Leader, you will have joint responsibility for the management and delivery of high quality responsive Primary Care Services throughout the prison that comply with all statutory instructions and delivered within the a framework of both clinical governance and good practice guidelines.

Providing support in leadership and direction of the team to ensure high quality, effective services that are person centered, accessible and locally valued by the prisoners, the prison and Practice Plus Group.


Nursing in prison is never predictable. On any given day your role could vary from delivering advice in a long term conditions clinic to dealing with a medical emergency or supporting somebody who has deliberately self-harmed. The situation in prison can change at any minute. You need to able to think on your feet and make quick autonomous decisions in what can be a challenging environment.

About You

You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Adult) with a valid NMC pin and evidence of continued professional development. You will have a real passion for developing your own clinical skills and those of your team. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourages new ideas, as well as the ability to work with service users and advocates to ensure involvement in services. You must have the ability to manage services in a rapidly changing environment.

Receive an annual salary of up to £39,000 per annum, depending on experience. You'll also get a number of benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave, increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus 8 public bank holidays and CPD and re-validation support.

HM Prison Stafford is a closed training prison which holds 751 category C people convicted of sexual offences. Modern buildings include Reception, Visits, Education, Kitchen, a 40 bed house block, Sports Hall and with a site adjacent to the prison was as an industrial workshop complex. 50% of our patients are over the age of 55 which leads healthcare services to have an emphasis on chronic disease management, frailty, complex case management, cancer care, palliative care and care of the dying.
