About The Role

Make a difference from day one!

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of our Healthcare team from the very beginning. Whatever your clinical interests and experience, a role in HMP Five Wells will enable you to use and develop your skills and provide opportunities to expand your scope of clinical practice.

In order to meet the needs of patients in this new prison Practice Plus Group has developed an exciting new integrated approach to the provision of care. Teams will work together at each stage of the patient journey, supporting them as they arrive in HMP Five Wells (Early Days in Custody Team), delivering the care they need, promoting good health and supporting resettlement (Planned Care Team) and responding to urgent and emergency needs (Unscheduled Care Team).

You’ll need expert clinical skills and the ability to demonstrate judgement in assessing and managing wide ranging and complex patient problems that patients will present with.

As a Mental Health Nurse you will be compassionate in meeting the needs of patients. As a team member you will undertake medication rounds, and work with patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed.  You will assess patient’s health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess their need through the use of your sound clinical knowledge.

You will be responsible for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of patients are maintained at all times and that care is delivered in accordance with evidence based practice by all members of the team.

About Us

We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare services in prisons and youth offender establishments.

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

HMP Five Wells is a new establishment built in 2020 that will begin receiving patients from January 2022. It is a Category C resettlement men’s prison which will have an operational capacity of 1,680 by November 2022.  HMP Five Wells is based in Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. It is approximately 30 minutes from Bedford, 20 minutes from Northampton and 35 minutes north of Milton Keynes by car.

Practice Plus Group were recently awarded the healthcare contract at HMP Five Wells and will begin delivering services in January 2022. We are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/well being factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.
