About The Role

Are you looking for a change in your nursing career?

Have you ever thought about working within a prison environment?

A fantastic opportunity has opened up with HMP Wakefield for an In-Patient Nurse. Every day is different and brings with it different challenges and opportunities for development.

You will gain experience in dealing with complex nursing needs inclusive of long term conditions, chronic or acute physical or mental ill health.

Providing good healthcare provisions and working in partnership with other disciplines within the prison help to rehabilitate and support offenders to live decent and purposeful lives as a member of the community.

Then look no further…

Practice Plus Group is the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

MP Wakefield is a Category A prison and houses approx. 720 offenders, with a multitude of often complex health needs.

The role brings a great opportunity to embrace change and embed culture and will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse and mixed level of nursing skills. One minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response

About you

As an RGN/RN 1 with valid NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and a real passion for taking your skills even further.

It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations.

Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time
