About The Role

Have you dreamed about breaking the mould and trying something different?

Ever thought about working within a prison...

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be.

As a healthcare provider, we recognise the fact that prisoners are a socially excluded group with complex healthcare needs that can often be associated with poor outcomes. We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history.

Practice Plus Group is Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially excluded group with healthcare needs that are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team in providing quality, evidence-based health care to meet the immediate needs of the patient, you'll take an active role within the cross-disciplinary, multi-skilled team to ensure service quality in line with corporate goals and strategy; to assist in the implementation of the wellbeing approach which has a positive impact on the health economy.

About You

You will be a registered Nurse and qualifications in Non Medical Prescribing. You will proven record of providing supervision, teaching and mentoring and have an understanding of concerns when prescribing in a prison environment. You will also have experience dealing with substance misuse.

• Based on the Wellbeing Approach, provide nursing triage and screening assessment.
• Health advice
• Nurse lead treatment prescribing medicines within own scope of practice
• Medicines management audits and oversight.
• Referral to another health professional or service as required.
• Set standards for care by implementing protocols and establishing health education activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessment, planning and treatment of patients.
• Manage and provide clinical supervision to the team

You would have experience of managing and developing a nursing team and an understanding of policy developments related to primary care services.

If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

About Us

We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare services in prisons and youth offender establishments.

We’re passionate about making a difference to the lives of prisoners by improving their health, securing their well-being and helping to reduce re-offending behaviour.

We deliver round-the-clock healthcare to more than 40,000 patients at over 45 prisons of all categories.
